Young Arts 2018/2019

Developed with the Royal Society of British Artists, the RBA Rising Stars competition encourages aspiring young artists who are identified and entered by The Arts Society’s local Societies. This year 21 finalists were chosen from a total of 247 entries. The first of two exhibitions opens at London’s Royal Over-Seas League on 26thApril 2019 – 19thJune 2019, with the RBA’s 302ndExhibition running at The Mall Galleries from 4thJuly 2019 – 14thJuly 2019

In conjunction with the Head of Art at Thomas Alleyne’s High School, Uttoxeter, and the generous support of The Needwood and Lichfield Arts Society we were successful in having one of our three nominations accepted as a Rising Star by the RBA.

Livia Robinson is a 6thForm Student at the school, and is currently studying for her A level exams from where she is planning to do an Art Degree at University. Her success in this competition is well deserved, as her still life pen and ink drawing of a sheep’s skull is superb.

Young Arts has been able to promote and support this project, as funding had to be found to professionally frame the art work to gallery hanging standards and to find a bespoke and reliable courier to deliver the picture to London. This experience for a young student is an opportunity of a lifetime, and one that she is truly grateful for. Her Art Teacher is also fulsome in her thanks for the opportunity and support that we have been able to give to the school Art Department.

This YA project began with a visit to view the School’s Art Exhibition in June 2018, and has been ongoing for the past 10 months . To have nearly reached the finishing line of this amazing journey causes me to reflect upon the opportunities that we can offer to schools and their students through  the work of Young Arts. Thank you to all of our members who regularly support this voluntary work through the book raffle at our monthly lecture meetings.
